FAQ
What is Base64 used for?
Base64 turns any data into plain letters and numbers so it can travel safely through text-only places: email attachments, JSON and APIs, and images embedded directly in HTML or CSS as Data URLs.
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Anyone can decode Base64, so never use it to hide passwords or secrets. It’s an encoding, not a lock.
What is URL-safe Base64?
It swaps + and / for - and _ and drops the = padding, so the result can go in URLs and file names. JWT tokens use this form. The decoder accepts both forms automatically.
Is there a file size limit?
Files are processed on your device, so the limit depends on its memory. Up to about 50 MB works well; Base64 output is about a third larger than the original.
