How it works

FAQ
Can I download the speech as an MP3?
Not here. Browsers play these voices straight through your speakers and don’t give web pages access to the audio, so it can’t be saved as a file. This also means no paid voice service is involved.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Not to us. Voices installed on your device work offline. Voices marked “online” (for example some in Chrome) are generated by your browser maker’s service, so pick a non-online voice for private text.
Why are the voices different on my phone and computer?
The voices come from your operating system and browser, so Windows, macOS, iOS and Android each offer their own. You can add more voices in your system’s speech or accessibility settings.
